How We Manage a Parkade Concrete Pumping Program

Pre-Pour Planning and Prequalification

Before the first pour, we review the floor plate layout, pour sequence, mix spec, and access constraints with your project manager or site superintendent. For large below-grade slabs, we confirm pump positioning, line routing from the street into the excavation, and backup equipment availability. For programs requiring continuous placement, we identify which pours cannot be interrupted and stage backup equipment accordingly. General contractors can contact us during the tender phase for equipment lists, certifications, and prequalification documentation.

Below-Grade and Foundation Phase

We begin with the raft slab and below-grade foundation elements using our largest boom pumps staged at the excavation perimeter. For wide floor plates, we position to cover the maximum area before repositioning, keeping pour momentum consistent. Where the excavation geometry requires multiple pump positions, we sequence moves to keep trucks flowing and avoid cold joints across large slab areas.

Above-Grade Levels

As the parkade structure rises above grade, we transition through the floor levels. Each deck is poured with boom pumps repositioned to the appropriate level, with equipment selections matched to the floor plate size and access conditions at each level. Ramp pours are handled with controlled output to manage placement on sloped surfaces. Shear cores and stair cores within the structure run with targeted placement to fill complex form geometries without segregation.

Program Coordination

We coordinate with your project manager and forming contractor on pour scheduling throughout the program. Pour dates are confirmed in advance with enough lead time to ensure equipment and crew availability. How do you pump concrete into a below-grade excavation for an underground parkade?
Large parkade slabs require pumps that can cover the floor plate at the required output rate within the pour window. Our 65M and 61M boom pumps deliver up to 160 m3/hr. For floor plates that need more than one pump, we dispatch multiple units to different sections simultaneously. Pour volume and pour schedule are the constraints we design around, not equipment limits.
Parkade programs are often the first major concrete phase on a larger construction program. The schedule discipline we establish on the parkade carries through the tower or building above it. We treat the parkade program as the foundation of a longer working relationship with your project team, not as a standalone job.
Pour continuity on a large parkade slab is not negotiable. A cold joint across a 2,000 square metre below-grade slab is a problem that costs more to fix than the pour itself. We identify which pours require backup equipment, stage it on site, and brief our operators on the transition procedure before the pour starts.
